Basic Accounting Equation
Accounting glossary · Understand, connect, apply
The basic accounting equation expresses the relationship between resources and claims: Assets = Liabilities + Equity.
Example
A business has $9,000 of assets and owes $4,000. Its equity is $5,000.
Remember the difference
Every correctly recorded transaction preserves this equality. A balanced equation alone does not prove that all entries are correct.
