Accounting Anomalies
Accounting glossary · Understand, connect, apply
Accounting anomalies are unusual patterns, balances or transactions that warrant investigation in financial information.
Example
Revenue rises sharply while cash collections fall and overdue receivables increase, prompting further review.
Remember the difference
An anomaly is a signal to investigate, not proof of fraud. Timing differences, business changes and errors can also explain unusual data.
