Accounting glossary · Understand, connect, apply

An accounting system combines people, procedures, records, controls and technology to capture transactions and produce financial information.

Example

A sales system records invoices, updates customer balances and transfers totals into the general ledger.

Remember the difference

Software alone is not the whole system. Authorisation, reconciliations and reliable source documents remain important.
